Commissioned on December 9th 3310
Current Location
Newton Tuckwell was born into a large family working a small thousand-acre farm in the western hemisphere of Earth on August 9th 3268. The excitement for his parents, John and June, was short lived since Newton was the ninth child. The family was close and loving, but as one could imagine, a parent’s attention can only stretch so far. This meant Newton had to grow up rather quickly compared to other children of his generation.
After his birth, his mother was warned that having any more children at 38 would be extremely risky if not outright deadly considering her medical conditions. Anyone who grew up in a blue-collar family can tell you that warnings like that tend to fall on deaf ears, and the Tuckwell family was no exception. Just two years later June gave birth to yet another. Luckily, the baby came into this galaxy without much fuss. Unfortunately, just three short years after that while giving birth to her eleventh child June passed away at the young age of 43.
Managing the farm and caring for ethe eight children that were not adults proved to be too much for John. Over the next three years he would lose custody of his children to the state. Johns’ breakdown resulted in young Newton being placed into foster care at the age of 9.
The turmoil of those years had a strong impact on John. Shortly after his last child was taken, he disappeared, leaving the farm to decay into a state of disrepair. Eventually the State would seize the farm but that is a story for a different time, for after his disappearance Newton would never see nor hear from his father or about the farm ever again.
During the next 8 years Newton would jump from one family to another. Most of his teenage years were spent on the Abraham Lincoln to foster parents that he barely even remembers. At seventeen he decided he had enough of the foster life and decided to sneak aboard a shipping vessel heading to The Bourne Mining Station on Calisto and begin his life as a young adult.
Newton lived a life of a vagabond, a story as old as time for most young runaways and almost as predictable. Floating between the dozens of stations and outpost over the next year or so Newton explored all he could while working any odd jobs he could find for anyone willing to toss him a few credits. Through all his travels Erlich City on Mercury is where he spent most of his time.
Near his apartment was The Little Shack diner. It had mediocre but cheap food, but with a good view, or at least what a nineteen-year-old young man would consider a good view, her name was Nora Bigley. It is unknown which came first, the relationship or the apartment near the diner, but either way they quickly became in-separable.
This of course led to the inevitable, in the spring of 3288 Nora discovered that she in fact was pregnant. Such a discovery tends to change one’s path quite significantly. They did the proper thing and decided to marry and turn their fruitful love into something a bit more permanent. On December 14, 3288, Nora’s 19th birthday, Newton purposed, and the wedding date was set for the next Valentine’s Day, February 14th, 3289. They had not time for a proper honeymoon because the arrival of Suloren Tuckwell quickly caught up with them on April 28th.
The years after her birth were un-remarkable with no significant changes. This slowly ate away at Newton, something had to change. Just after Sulo’s 11 birthday in May of 3300 Newton decided that working at the mines had no future and would never allow him to provide any more for his family than the simple apartments they have grown accustomed too. After saving up $250k he purchased his first ship, a twenty-ton Hauler. The beginning of his space trucking career though would prove difficult for the family with his absence from home.
Just three years later Nora was not having it anymore and decided it was time to part ways and filed for divorce. The family was broken up on November 15th, 3303 when the divorce was finalized. Of course, Nora got full custody and Newton even continued to pay for the residence since it was an amicable separation, and he wanted to still provide for his daughter.
The next six years of his life were mundane, just working as an owner operator running shipping around the bubble. Nora and Sulo eventually packed up and moved back to Earth while Newton was working on building his fleet.
The friends he made through his trucking business led him to Dawson City for a Halloween party at the end of October 3309 where he met Jacey Anthony. She was a middle-aged scientist, and they had both hit it off. Jacy worked as a Geneticist for Vista Genomics and dedicated her life to her studies. This arrangement worked well for them as it allowed both the space needed to maintain their careers and relationship without conflict.
It did not take much convincing from Jace to convince Newton to spend a few credits on an Artemis suit and join her on her next expedition into the black. The company she works for, Vista Genomics, have some very deep pockets, and anyone willing help them in their quest for genetic knowledge are very well rewarded.
A career change at his age is not quite what Newton expected but with a new suit, a genetic sampler, and the latest exploration ship from Zorgon Peterson, he packed up and joined the Laid-Back Expedition. They embarked out to the black on November 3rd, 3310.
For those that do not know, at that time there was a war raging in the bubble for the last previous two years with the Thargoids. Newton never paid much mind to it since he was just a space trucker, not much for combat. The culmination of this war resulted in a direct attack on SOL itself, something that no human had ever expected. The bold move of Cocijo to attack Earth directly left Newton with no other choice, He had to get to Earth and rescue Nora and Suloren at all costs.
